Wells Fargo’s San Francisco headquarters houses no member of its ‘senior leadership team’
No one from Wells Fargo’s 17-member “senior leadership team” remains based at the bank’s headquarters in San Francisco, the bank told me Wednesday. The senior leadership team, as outlined on the bank’s website, includes CEO Charlie Scharf and the C-suite along with other senior executives, such as the heads of several business units. As recently as February 2020, Wells had four members of its then 15-member senior leadership team based in San Francisco, where the bank (NYSE: WFC) was founded in 1852 amid the Gold Rush.

‘There Are Signs That a Market Bottom Is in Sight’: Oppenheimer Likes These 2 Stocks for a Comeback Rally
The big question: Has the market hit a bottom yet? Well, according to Oppenheimer’s Head of Technical Analysis Ari Wald, there are signs one is forming, the most notable of which is that the Russell 2000 index – the barometer for small-cap stocks – “held to the June lows in the most recent late Q3 move to the downside.” Wald also notes that the signal of a market top is when the S&P 500 makes a “higher high, and small caps make a lower high,” and we are currently seeing the opposite scenario pla

Inflation at 8.2%: 2 ‘Strong Buy’ Dividend Stocks to Protect Your Money
Last month, the Federal Reserve implemented its fifth straight interest rate hike this year, and its third consecutive hike at 75 basis points, bringing its key funds rate up to the 3% to 3.25% range. The move showed that the central bank is deadly serious about taking on the stubbornly high inflation that has been plaguing the economy since the middle of 2021. The Fed’s turn toward an aggressive anti-inflationary policy may not be hard enough, however, as the September data, released this morni

Stock Market Today: Stocks Plunge, Surge Higher After September Inflation Shock
U.S. stocks turned sharply lower Thursday, before recovering nearly as quickly into one of the strongest gains of the year, while the dollar whipsawed against its global peers and Treasury bond yields surged, as investors reacted to a hotter-than-expected reading for September inflation. The headline consumer price index for the month of September was estimated to have risen 8.2% from last year, down from the 8.3% pace recorded in August but faster than the Street consensus forecast of 8.1%. So-called core inflation, which strips-out volatile components such as food and energy prices, rose 0.6% on the month, and 6.6% on the year, the report noted, with both the annual and monthly reading coming firmly north of Street forecasts.

Alex Jones Is ‘Basically Broke for the Rest of His Life’ After Sandy Hook Verdict, Says Former U.S. Attorney
Right-wing conspiracy figure Alex Jones’ company has already filed for bankruptcy protection, and it’s not clear how much of the staggering $965 million verdict reached Tuesday he’ll actually wind up paying to the 15 plaintiffs in the defamation case about his lies about the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. Fed seen ramping up interest-rate hikes as inflation burns hot
(Reuters) -The Federal Reserve is seen delivering another large interest-rate hike in three weeks’ time and ultimately lifting rates to 4.75%-5% by early next year, if not further, after a government report showed inflation remained stubbornly hot last month. Traders of U.S. interest-rate futures piled into fresh bets on a more aggressive Fed, even pricing in a one-in-three chance that the Fed drives the policy rate above 5% next year, after a Labor Department report showed the consumer price index jumped 0.4% in September from August. From a year earlier, prices rose 8.2%, far above the Fed’s 2% target.

Fiscal expansion risks forcing ECB into more rate hikes, Kazaks says
The European Central Bank should keep raising interest rates quickly, and expansive fiscal policy around the 19-country euro zone is raising the risk the bank will have to tighten more, Latvian central bank chief Martins Kazaks said on Thursday. The ECB should lift its 0.75% deposit rate by 75 basis points on Oct. 27 and should go for another large hike in December, Kazaks told Reuters, joining a growing camp of policymakers advocating an oversized move this month. But the steps could become smaller thereafter while being complemented by other moves, such as shrinking the ECB’s oversized portfolio of private and public bonds, he added.

In This Market Nobody Knows Anything
In this market, as William Goldman wrote about Hollywood, nobody knows anything. Bloomberg posted a great chart yesterday, and its bearish title was confirmed after this morning’s yet-again plunge on the S&P 500 after a higher-than-expected reading on September’s Consumer Price Index, as reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The problem in the minds of the “disruption”-addled know-it-alls who foist stocks on unsuspecting US retail investors is that they never notice that the US bond market is crashing too.
